develops the idea of my earlier Triptych I, this time using Campin's painting
of Madonna by the Fire. Triptych II is a creative combination of two events. The first was a dream I had and the second was my entry for the exhibition "Tea Trays in the Sky" at the MacDonald Stewart Art Center in Guelph. My husband, the potter Larry Davidson, and I received wooden trays but since we were running short of time I got his as well. I wanted to create a paraphrase of a three-piece altar in miniature. As the theme of the Madonna was very 'hot' for me at the time, the triptych shape - found in the altarpieces of many Gothic churches - was ideal. Larry added magnificent clay embellishments in a gold raku glaze. Not for sale |
