The Dance of Emptiness and Form

working The project “The Dance of Emptiness and Form” began in 1996 on much smaller scale. That year
I visited England. On returning home I received the book “Patterns of Thought” by Richard Foster about Westminster Abbey Pavement. As I had just visited Westminster Abbey I was puzzled as how could I have missed such an exquisite pavement, which is not small. The book explained that since 1921 the pavement has been covered

by carpet due to wear and tear. It became transparent to me after a few months of mental battles that I NEEDED to recreate the piece to give it back to the people.
By training, I am an architect. I grew up in Wroclaw, Poland, a town with a fascinating, rich historical heritage. Desire for conservation and preservation, and respect for the old runs in my blood. Another reason was the significance of the pavement bay itself.
It is not just an esthetically pleasing mosaic; it has hidden esoteric symbolism, a language to which I am partial. It tells the story of the creation and dissolution of the universe. I started a one-piece project which took six years to complete.
In the meantime, two years after starting the project, I found myself in the Yashodara Ashram with a show of my fiber art “Feminine Awakened”, and participating in a ten day intensive workshop, striping down layers of myself. In the majesty of the Rocky Mountains and by the calm of the Kooteneay Lake, I was surrounded by the feminine energy of the place. Here the idea of the Five Elements/Energies project was born.
It was the result of two years already spent on the “Westminster Abbey Pavement”
