ART FOR THE WALL Visual textile art made in Evita Schvallbe's studio is “one-of-a-kind” art for the wall. Abstract or narrative, Evita's wall pieces are full of texture and colour, in an unconventional choice of rich fabrics and complex stitching. Evita's creations focus on the spiritual essence of her chosen theme; stirring emotions, inducing reflection and conveying beauty and comfort. She derives her inspiration from medieval art and architecture, oriental and European travels, ancient philosophies, and her dreams.
“What inspires my work is my deeply inquiring nature. What presents itself as a burning issue at the given moment comes out in the solid form of textile art. Because the process of creating tapestries is not a quick one, it gives me the opportunity to deepen my questioning, and look for understanding, answers, reflection and enjoyment.”
MEDIUM Recent projects experiment with silk fusion (silk fiber made into paper-fabric like material). All works use surfacing (surface techniques) achieved by hand and machine manipulation. They are: embroidery, appliqué, textile painting, photo transfer, quilting, mixed media, and experiments with 3D effects.
STUDIO Evita Schvallbe's studio offers works for sale as well as accepts commissions. Larger or more complex pieces may require 6 to 12 months for completion. Inquiries are welcome.
